Aqueous Media Pastel & Oil Painting
Twelve (12) session course!
Working from still life set-ups, learn the various techniques of aqueous media used for creating light, structure, texture, transparency and opacity. While the focus of the class is water-based acrylics, students are welcome to work in pastels or oil if they prefer. Instructor demonstrations and group discussion, as well as individual attention, provided during each class session.
This is a twelve (12) session course from 9/18/23 - 12/12/23.

New Zoom Class for the Winter
Snowy winter scenes can be breathtaking but a challenge to depict onsite amid freezing temperatures and icy conditions. Hone your landscape painting practice comfortably indoors with Joe Sweeney, online in his studio, and learn how to use photographs effectively to complete finished landscape paintings or to prepare for and supplement outdoor work! Work from instructor-provided reference photographs to learn tactics for depicting winter features such as snow, bare trees, and the distinctive palette of the winter light at various times of day. Topics will include creating a strong composition, identifying what to leave in and what to leave out, color mixing, capturing the effects of light and shadow, and a variety of direct painting techniques. Instruction is geared toward oil/acrylic painting, but experienced watercolorists are welcome.
